Congratulations to Khumukcham Saratchandra Singh S/O (L) Kh. Budhi Singh and Kh. (Ongbi) Anandi Devi of Kakching-Khunou Awang Kshetri Leikai on receiving his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biochemistry from the University of Hyderabad, Institute of Eminence, Hyderabad for his thesis “Crosstalk between tumor microenvironment and HIF-1á-HPIP loop establishes phenotypic plasticity in breast cancer cells: Implications in tumor development and metastasis”. The scientific research was done under the supervision of Prof. Bramanandam Manavathi, Dept. of Biochemistry, School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad.

He is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Department of Medicine, Duke University, North Carolina, USA, where he is researching therapeutic ways to clinically target gastrointestinal cancers. Earlier, he spent two months as a visiting scholar at the Institute of Physiology, University of Lübeck, Germany, as part of a bilateral grant project (Department of Science and Technology (India) and German Academic Exchange Service (Germany)-2020.

Notable Achievements:

  • Professor V C Shah Memorial prize (Best poster paper presentation award) at the International Congress of Cell Biology (ICCB) 2018
  • Best poster presentation award at an international conference, co-hosted by IISC (Indian Institute of Sciences), SickKids Canada, and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2018.
  • Research Proficiency award 2019 from the Department of Biochemistry, School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad.
  • Published eight scientific research papers in reputed journals like Cancer letters 2021, Journal of Biological Chemistry (JBC) 2019, BBA Reviews on Cancer 2021, RSC Advances 2020, Plos Biology 2018, etc.
  • Cleared North East State Level Eligibility Test (NE-SLET) 2013, UGC-CSIR NET 2016, and 2017.
